Market Lamb Show Circuit
Mission: To foster competition among New England and New York market lamb producers and showmen to exhibit strong market lambs.
Goal: Start a competitive market show circuit in New England and New York. Provide opportunity for growth in the New England Market Lamb Industry, to support New England sheep breeders and the sheep industry. To provide junior and open participants a community to compete throughout the year that provides leadership, competition and community.
Circuit Outline
1. The circuit will sanction at least 1 show per New England state and New York.
a. Show will host four additional classes for the market lamb show circuit:
i. Open light weight
Ii. Open heavy weight
Iii. Youth light weight
Iv. Youth heavy weight
b. Champion and Reserve Champions for Open and Youth events will be selected as well.
c. Circuit shows must be willing to provide results within 10 days of shows and be willing to answer questions. Results must include lamb tag number.
d. Youth are defined as less than 21-years-old as of Jan. 1 of the circuit year.
e. Shows can apply to become sanctioned through an application process. All applications must be submitted by Jan 1 of the circuit year. The circuit committee will have the final say in whether to sanction the show or not based on several factors.
f. Sanctioned shows will receive a $500 sponsorship ($100 per class and $25 for champion and reserve banners - youth and open).
2. To be eligible to participate, exhibitors must be members of NEWSGA in good standing by the NEYSS show in July.
3. Exhibitors will be awarded points at the competition on the following scale. Points will be accumulated on how a lamb places in class whether or not other lambs in the class are exhibited as part of the circuit
4. At the end of the year, points will be tallied and the exhibitor with the most points wins. Ties will be broken by highest placing at the last fair exhibited at.
5. All exhibitors must declare their market lambs for the show circuit via an ownership form before the NEYSS kick off show.
6. Competitors will be awarded the following:
a. Jackpot funds split as follows ($2,000 for division – youth and open):
b. 1 - $400, 2 - $300, 3 - $250, 4 - $225, 5 -$200, 6 - $175, 7- $150, 8 -$125, 9 - $100, 10 - $75
c. Name on revolving trophy to be stored at Eastern States Exposition office
d. Big Rosette ribbons
7. Only wethers and ewes shown in market lamb classes are eligible for the circuit. Rams are not eligible for this circuit. Additionally, ewes shown in breeding classes are not eligible.
8. The NESWGA Lamb Circuit is not responsible for the management of sanctioned shows. All sanctioned events are run independently of the circuit. All exhibitors are expected to honor the rules of the show in which they are participating.
