Who will win in 2009 ?

March 20, 2009
Dear New England Sale Consignor
The New England Sale is gearing up for
another record year in 2009. The sale
committee wishes to extend an invitation to all
breeders to enter their favorite breed. The
consignors have been providing exceptional
quality breeding sheep for sale over recent
years and these sheep are commanding good
prices from the buyers.
Classes are offered for rams and ewes of all
breeds. A special division for for “wether-dam ewes” will be continued.
Classes are offered for all registered breeds with an additional class for nonregistered,
crossbred ewes. Classes will be offered for the same age groups of
any breed. A Champion and Reserve Champion will be selected from all of the
wether-dam classes. These classes will show and sell in the normal breed order
at the end of the show and sale.
We will continue to offer our unique sale attractions that you have
come to associate with the New England Sale:
 Champion Cash Jackpots
 $100 awards for Supreme Champion Ram and Ewe
 Open to all breeds
 Late lamb classes and a bred ewe division
 Lower entry fees ($15 for ewes) and overall costs
 Used sheep equipment auction
 Buyer’s raffle for sale credits up to $200
 Friday night family barbecue
 Ice Cream Social during Supreme Champion selection
 Northeast Youth Sheep Show (Friday through Sunday) in which sheep
purchased at the sale are eligible to be shown in the breed classes.
We will be promoting the sale heavily and guarantee that the sale
catalog will be available by the time of the Midwest Stud Ram Sale! In order for
us to accomplish this please respect the April 20th entry deadline. We will
accept late entries but they may not appear in the sale catalog. Also, take a look
at affordable advertising in our sale catalog. Promote your breeding program
and entries to the 2009 New England Sale!

BREEDS, CLASSES & QUOTAS
THE 2009 SHOW & SALE IS OPEN TO ALL BREEDS! There is no quota on the number of rams sold per breed but will be subject to sifting. Ewes will also be subject to sifting for insufficient quality or soundness. All breeds will have classes for Yearling Rams, Yearling Ewes, Bred Ewes (up to 3 years old as of 1-1-2009) and Ram & Ewe Lambs.

The break dates for lamb classes are as follows:
All breeds except Polled and Horned Dorsets- Fall lambs: September 1-December 31, 2008; Early Spring Lambs: January 1– February 14, 2009; Late Spring Lambs: February 15 and after.

Dorsets will be broken as follows: Fall Lambs: September 1- November 30, 2008; Early Spring Lambs: December 1, 2008- January 15, 2009; Late Spring Lambs: January 16 and after.

And don’t forget: classes for wether-dams will be offered in all breeds and an additional class will be offered for non-registered, crossbred ewes. Please note that a single Champion and Reserve Champion wether-dam will be selected from these classes. These two winners will not be eligible to compete for Supreme Champion. Wether-sire classes are NOT offered.

TRANSPORTATION TO NEW ENGLAND FROM OTHER SALES
Trucking of sheep will be available from the Midwest Sale in Sedalia, MO. Please contact the sale manager to make trucking arrangements.

INTERSTATE SHIPMENT OF SHEEP
All sheep consigned to the New England Sale must be positively identified with an eartag approved by the USDA and accompanied by an approved interstate health certificate. This will be the consignor’s responsibility.

Please make your plans now. The sale management’s decision is final regarding adequate identification. For more information, please call 866-873-2824 or your state’s USDA APHIS or www.aphis.usda.gov/vs/scrapie.htm

COMMISSION, ENTRY FEES & ENTRY DEADLINE
A commission of 10% will be charged on the amount over $100/head. The New England Sale reserves the right to increase the percentage of commissions to cover costs. All applicable commission is charged on any “NO SALES.”

YOU MUST BE A MEMBER OF THE NESWGA TO ENTER SHEEP. The cost of membership is $10 for a farm or family. Entry fees are $15/head on ewes and $20/head on rams, payable at the time of entry. CATALOG ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITY 
OUR GUARANTEE: The catalog will be available by the time of the Midwest Stud Ram Sale (mid June). Like you, we’re looking for an effective low-cost way to promote our product. We run ads in the big sheep magazines, but that only goes so far and we’re surrounded by lots of competition. So we publish our own sale catalog (4,000 copies) and distribute it to everyone we can. And since its a sale catalog, people who read it are people who are looking to buy sheep and sheep-related products. It works great! For you, it’s better still because it’s low-cost and low stress.

You sketch out what you want to say and we do the rest. We typeset the ad and send you a proof copy for your approval.

We print 4,000 catalogs, mail out 2,500, distribute the rest at New England events, at major shows and sales nationwide, to local 4-H clubs and sheep organizations, and at local feed stores and livestock auctions. For $70, you can introduce thousands of sheep producers to your farm, products or services. Now is a good time to take advantage of a good deal. Try advertising in the 2009 New England Sale Catalog.

PROMOTE YOUR SALE ENTRIES We offer a special service to New England Sale Consignors: If you place an ad to promote your sale entries we will try to place the ad on the same page as your entries or on a facing page.

** PLEASE NOTE NEW AD SIZES: **
In an effort to reduce postal costs and meet new postal size regulations, we have changed the size of our catalog. The new catalog will be approximately 11” high and 6” wide. Ad sizes have changed. Please note ad sizes below:
WIDTH HEIGHT PRICE
HALF PAGE 5” X 4 7/8” $70
FULL PAGE 5” X 9 7/8” $100

TYPESETTING: We will typeset your ad and send you a proof copy or
you may send an electronic file (pdf, doc, or ppt formats, please).

PHOTOGRAPHS & ARTWORK: YOU MUST SUPPLY ALL PHOTOGRAPHS & SPECIAL ARTWORK FOR YOUR AD. All photographs will be returned.

DEADLINE: The deadline for submitting advertising is April 20. With this April 20 deadline we GUARANTEE THAT THE CATALOG WILL BE AVAILABLE BY THE TIME OF THE MIDWEST SALE. We do accept entries after this date but we cannot accept advertising.

CAMPER RESERVATIONS: To help you save travel costs, you may bring your camper or motor home and have electric, water and sewer hook-ups at a small charge of $25 for the weekend. Reservations are preferred.

2009 will be another great year!
Looking forward to hearing from you,

Becky Peterson, New England Sale Manager              www.nesheep.org
