Hi everyone! I am Barbara Haberlin and I am the Superintendent of the Fiber Nook. The “Nook” is the building within Mallary Complex displaying the entries of the Fiber Products Competition at The Big E, along with housing educational exhibits such as: demonstrations featuring spinning, weaving, felting, etc., and displays prize winning fleeces entered in competition – Lincoln and Cheviot this year. Our primary goal is the promotion of sheep and wool and camelid fibers and of course, we are one of the two major fund raising activities supporting the North East Youth Show, along with the Food Booth at the Youth Show. Eastern States Exposition and New England Sheep and Wool Growers Association sell items in the Fiber Nook and the money earned is then used to help support the North East Youth Sheep Show held each year in July. This year again we are looking for donated items, which could be sold, in our fund raising effort. These items could be anything related to sheep, wool, llamas and alpacas - hats, mittens, scarves, socks, roving, wool yarn, kits, gift baskets, toys, related trinkets that you might find (Use that “sheep radar”!) - knitted, crocheted, woven, etc. and do not have to made by the individual donating the item. We have had great volunteers in the past years, and I have already heard from a few of you that will be helping out again this year. Thank you! It’s great fun showing off our skills/projects and talking to folks about our sheep and wool and lamb and fiber – oh my! The Fiber Nook is open from 9 am to 9 pm from September 17 – October 3, 2010. We are looking to staff two-four hour shifts per day (9 – 1 & 1 – 5) with two to three volunteers per shift. Eastern States Exposition will donate two gate passes and one car pass for each volunteer. Bring along a friend or family member to enjoy The Big E. We are again calling on members of New England Sheep and Wool Growers, parents of Youth Show exhibitors, older youth show exhibitors, Breed Representatives and interested individuals for help in not only volunteering time but also in donating items. Please join us! A sign up sheet will be available at the Food Booth in July and donated items can be turned in at that time. Please consider volunteering either by donating an item or your time for a shift or possibly two. Please send your name, address, telephone number, email address, dates and times of volunteering availablity or items you are interested in donating to: Barbara Haberlin, PO Box 581, Brookfield, MA 01506, beadsheep@charter.net by September 1 . If you have any questions or concerns I can be reached at: 508-637-1239, 508-868-1156 or beadsheep@charter.net.
Thanks so much, Barbara Haberlin, Fiber Nook Superintendent
